I've come to believe in the last few years that young adult fiction has become the most overrated segment of American literature. Case in point, Tangerine. Although targeted at the early-teen set, Tangerine is rife with tragedy, horror, and, in the end, bitter triumph. One of the most disturbing and affecting young adult novels ever written.
Beware the Eric Fischer Football Dream.
