I think the point was to tone down rorshach's awesomeness and as the only one without any real super powers or high tech gadgets he was by far probably one of the betters of the watchmen.
Also the intrinsic field is a quantum theoryesque type of thing that deals with string theory. Based on the whole concept of two waves canceling each other out.
Also the movie did have a bit to much skin but otherwise was pretty clean. I would have liked a bit more character development and the guy who acted Ozy was a little weak.
Hopefully they'll have some alternate scenes to help fix some of the issues when they come out with the DVD. I would have liked to have seen them stay truer to the original, and from what I hear, sounds like I'm going to have to take a look at the original graphic novel then.
